Preface
by Randy “Dr. Proactive” Gilbert
I was so delighted when my friend Kristie Tamsevicius asked me to
review this exciting and much needed book. And after reading it,
I literally begged her to let me write the preface for it. The preface
is traditionally written by the author and usually tells you why
and how she wrote the book.
It’s almost too obvious that “why she wrote this book”
is because Kristie really cares about people, especially parents
like you who are struggling to spend more time at home with their
families. “How she wrote this book” will soon become
as evident to you as it is to me – because Kristie is an expert
and is eminently qualified to help you start and run a profitable
home-based business.
But I wanted to defy tradition because I wanted you to understand
“why you should read this book” and “how you might
put it to good use.” I thought you would be more inclined
to believe another reader who can inexplicably say, “I Love
My Life” too.
Why You Should Read This Book
First let me say, my wife Cathy and I have lived through all of
the phases of a home-based business and we wish we had this kind
of resource when we first started out. At that time we had three
children, ages 6, 5, and 4 and we had just moved into a high cost
area next to where I was stationed in the Coast Guard.
Cathy loved being home with our children and had begun home-schooling
them (we started when people were still getting shot or thrown in
jail for doing it). However, we needed a little more income, so
starting a home-based business became the obvious solution. So in
1985, Bargain Publishers Co. began as the first desktop publishing
company in the Washington DC area.
Three strong benefits have come out of owning and operating a home-based
business: Cathy was able to stay at home with our children and home-school
them (all the way through high school). We earned a sizeable income
and enjoyed great tax benefits (and we not only paid our first mortgage,
but we bought 46 acres near by and built a huge log home on it).
Our children learned solid business skills (which put them way ahead
of their peers in college and afterward). There isn’t any reason
why you can’t enjoy these same benefits and more.
How You Might Put This Book To Good Use
My first recommendation is do as we did. As our business and family
matured we kept asking “how can we serve others?” and
“how can our business serve us?” Kristie Tamsevicius
provides the guidance in this wonderful book for you to be able
to answer these questions. Your business can and should give you
joy, passion, and income.
My second recommendation is have an open mind to Kristie’s
sound advice by starting with the assumption that you are going
to either start a home-based business or transform your current
home-based business into a profitable enterprise.
The opportunities for home-based businesses are huge – HUGE!
I firmly believe that this book will give you the tools and guidance
needed so that you too will soon be able to exclaim, “I Love
My Life.”
